For the past 14 years, David Emert, Senior Trainer, has spearheaded annual children’s gift drives. He started the tradition in Rochester and kept it going when he moved to the South Jersey sales office. The gift drives have gathered an estimated 3,500 toys over the years, with the most recent charity to receive these donations being the Silver Springs, Martin Luther School. The Mount Laurel office has been extremely generous, and this year was no exception.
“When I send out the announcement for the children’s gift drive,” Emert said, “I usually include this quote from Hello Dolly as uttered by Dolly Levi, ‘Money, pardon the expression, is like manure. It’s not worth a thing unless it’s spread around, encouraging young things to grow.’ ”
Silver Springs Martin Luther School promotes trauma recovery and family reunification in a nurturing and healing environment with a quality educational program.
“Windstream’s annual toy drive each Christmas helps the children who have come to stay with us after experiencing far too many bad, sad, and scary things, to experience great delight, fun, and a sense of abundance,” stated Joan Plump, Development Director for the school. “We are extremely grateful for the faithful and generous partnership of all our friends at Windstream.”
Tara Mayer, Provisioning Manager, has two daughters who each received the name of a child their age who wanted art supplies.
“Those two girls will be amazed when they open the backpack brimming with art supplies and little toys,” stated Emert. “Oh, and each one of Tara’s girls added a personal note to the Silver Springs girls who were getting their gift.”
